Life without Mommy Part 6

Today we headed for the Arctic front that was to be found in Lincoln City. With the temperature finding its way upwards of 106 I figured it would be better for me the kiddos if they had somewhere to play that has some space rather than being cooped up in the house all day long. As we drove into Lincoln City Josiah observed that it was "froggy" (which would have been disappointing on any other day) and was a little sad that there was no sun. That didn't stop us, though, from enjoying a few hours at Gleneden Beach. The boys enjoyed digging holes in the sand, which was a delight for Brownie (who had never been to the beach before). Josiah pretended to be a dog and barked at people as they walked by. Micah was determined to make the kite fly even though there was no wind. And Cami enjoyed eating the sand more than playing with it. All in all it was a good time.

Funny moment of the day: Josiah loves to run into the surf whenever he is at the beach but I wouldn't let him today because the waves were pretty big and breaking close to the shore line. At one point the boys did venture down as close as they could get, hoping that I wouldn't notice. Just before I called them back a sneaker wave came up further than any of the other ones had come and the terrified boys turned around to run back with huge eyes of surprise. Josiah (being the athletic, coordinated one) had no problem outrunning the pursuing water. Micah (being the not so athletic, and not so coordinated one) didn't outrun it. The inch and a half of water depth was all that was needed to disrupt what balance he possessed at the time and he went face down in the water. Josiah was a model of older-brotherness as he looked back and then kept going. "Where's Dad in all this?" you might be asking. I was first wishing that I had my camera at that moment because it would have been a great photo-op. But then the responsible part of me kicked in and I rushed down to help Micah up. He was fine. If he were able to recount what happened he would probably tell you that he had made a quick visit to death's doorstep, when in reality the worst that happened was he got some water up his nose.

Pictures of the day

Not really sure what Josiah is doing here.

Brownie enjoyed helping the boys dig the holes...

...and Micah enjoyed being buried in one of the holes that was dug

Note the sand right under Cami's nose. She was dripping green goop and as she ate the sand some would stick to it. The picture doesn't do it justice.

Glad you made it to the beach. It looks like you all had fun and a great way to get out of the house for the day!
Tell Josiah I want to hear him "bark like a dog". Maybe I should get him a dog bone to share with Brownie! ha
:-)
Poor Cami, she must be lacking in something if she likes to eat sand! :-)
