This is Dan blogging for the third time today. I need to give a bit of back-story to set the context for a very funny moment that just happened. Josiah has had this fascination...no, obsession, with smelling our hair during random moments of the day. I think it began one day when he got a whiff of Anna's hair right after she had washed it. He liked the smell and has now wanted to smell our hair ever since. Usually he comments that Mommy's hair smells good and Dad's hair is stinky.
So, tonight we had gone through our typical goodnight routine: brush teeth, go potty, find toys to sleep with, take a few rebellious laps around the living room, climb into bed, sing songs, pray, listen to a story, sing songs again, pray again, and smell Mommy's hair. After all the mayhem, Anna and I had settled down on the couch to watch some TV when Josiah yelled out from his bedroom for me (Dad) to come in. A little annoyed, yet still sensitive enough to oblige my son's request, I got up to see what he wanted. Here is how the conversation went:
"What is it, Josiah?"
"Dad, I want to smell your hair."
Leaning forward over the rail of the top bunk, "Does it smell good?"
"No"
From the bottom bunk a small voice calls out, "I smell your hair"
I lean down and position myself for a proper smelling.
"No, Woody smell your hair."
The Toy Story doll is raised to inhale my bald spot.
"Does it smell good?"
"Hee Haw!" (a two-year-old's "Yee Haw")
"Good night, boys. I love you"
At least someone thinks my hair smells good.
