And the tears were caused by...

...baseball.


He wasn't hit by a pitch.

Josiah didn't hit him with a bat.

And a ground ball didn't catch him in the nose.

The game of baseball itself was enough to make him cry.

He cried because he wanted to pitch. So we gave him a ball and told him to pitch. But that only made him cry more.

He cried because he wanted someone to throw a ball at him. So we threw a ball at him. But that only made him cry even more.

He cried because he wanted to bat. So we gave him a bat and threw pitches in his direction. But that only made him cry that much more.

So we went to the playground.

And he smiled.
